Michael Levy Photography
Old Coach House, Burgoyne Valley
From the series Relics, this old, defunct coach house serves as a reminder of part of the history of the Burgoyne Valley when it was an active farming community. It is now a provincial park that focuses not only on the natural beauty of the area but on the First Nations history as well. Photographed with a 1954 Rolleiflex twin lens reflex camera on Ilford Pan F 50 film.
Michael Levy’s fine art analog photographs are recorded on various film emulsions with cameras and lenses dating back as far as the 1930s. He custom prints each photograph on archival, 100% heavyweight cotton rag papers in his studio on Salt Spring Island.

Michael Levy’s introduction to the photographic process took place when he was a young man living with his family in Belgium. He enrolled in a basic black and white darkroom course and processed and printed his first roll of film in 1984. He works in both digital and analog photography and has focused primarily on nature, wildlife and landscape photography, using only natural light. After publishing three successful coffee table books about Salt Spring, he is now redirecting his work to focus on fine art.
